Crap

taste of sin
Our hamster Juliet just gave birth to several babies.....

I don't know how many or when. But I think she had them last night at least. I seperated the male (Romeo) and put him into my rat's old cage. He shouldn't be able to get out of it. But I have him in the bathroom just in case.

I don't know what to do for her. I have never had a hamster give birth before. I have always had male hamsters....

Goodness....what do I do?

Leave them alone. Don't touch the babies, the mom will eat them. Ummm, put in a small box (it they don't already have one) as a nest box for privacy, feed her plenty and try to do as little distrurbing as possible (loud noises, staring in, etc.)
That's what I remember from when mine had babies when I was little...

Get a small box of dog biscuits - rodents love them, and they're a good source of vitamins and calcium. Leave Mama and babies alone till the babies have their eyes open; after that, you can begin handling them. The babies should be handled every day, so they get used to it and will make good pets. Start looking now for homes for them, because once they're weaned, if you try to keep them all in the same cage, they're likely to start warring with each other. Your pet shop may be willing to buy them; pre-schools and elementary-school classrooms may adopt them, especially if you provide cages.

You do realize that if you put Romeo and Juliet back together after the babies are gone, they'll produce another litter in due course....

my only advice....don't think that your hamster is the nice friendly sweetie that she was before. She's a protective momma.
And they bite. Hard. So says the voice of experience! :)

Pretty much your job is to feed her and watch 'em grow. That part is fun! They are so cute when they are teeeny-tiny!

I miss my hamsters. Hamsters is nice.
